This large working class residential village developed after the Wilder Brothers, paper manufacturers in Boston, bought the water rights on the Connecticut River falls in the 1880s in order to make paper. The village was laid out on a grid plan, with many of the streets named after trees. Houses date from the late 1800s to the 1950s.
