The Black River falls a total of 110 feet in the space of 1/8th mile as it runs through the town. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, the river powered a variety of industries. It became famous in the late 1800s and 1900s for its large machine tool companies. A downtown bridge offers a good view of the rivers power. |
