Designed and built by Rudyard Kipling in 1892-93; restored by The Landmark Trust in 1993. While living here Kipling wrote the Jungle Books, Captains Courageous, The Day’s Work, The Seven Seas and began Kim and the Just So Stories. Kipling also introduced skiing to Vermont on skis given to him by Arthur Conan Doyle and invented snow golf.
