Brattleboro Downtown Historic District

In the mid-19th century Brattleboro became nationally recognized as an extraordinary summer resort. The discovery of pure springs along the Whetstone Brook as a water cure attracted a wealthy clientele from throughout the country. Later the Estey Organ Company became the largest organ manufacturer in the nation. The district represents a 140-year period of development as the cultural, commercial, and industrial center of southeastern Vermont and has an outstanding collection of historic commercial buildings.
