It publishes periodicals and books, and presents programs for adults, schoolchildren, and local historical societies throughout the year. Collections span the history of the state from the Woodland period (1200 A.D.) to the present and include decorative arts, furniture, paintings, agricultural and industrial tools, household goods, costumes and accessories, textiles, archeological artifacts, money, military equipment, toys, and musical instruments. The library has books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, and broadsides on Vermont, along with a large New England genealogy reference section.
