Barre Historic District

The city developed in the late 19th century when the new railroad line and talented immigrants and quarrymen and stone carvers made it economically possible for the granite industry to expand. Today, Barre is still the “Granite Capital of the World.” The district, located along North Main Street and surrounding a triangular park, has many handsome buildings with granite details.
