Poultney Village Historic District

The village of Poultney developed along a turnpike opened in 1811 as a main thoroughfare between Albany, NY, and Burlington, VT. Historic buildings date from this time to the 1930s. Many, including a Greek Revival bank, were built after the arrival of the Rutland and Washington Railroad in 1847 and after the slate and other industries prospered in the late 1800’s. Also of note are the two railroad depots and the 1923 Williams Chevrolet dealership.
