Danby’s prosperity was built on marble quarrying and agriculture. The small commercial center grew after the railroad was built to nearby Mount Tabor. Village buildings form a nearly intact 19th-century streetscape. In her last years, author Pearl Buck made her home in Danby, and her foundation owned several of the buildings on Main Street.
