This rosy pink Gothic Revival homestead and “gentleman farm” complex was designed by Justin S. Morrill and built for him in 1848. Morrill later served in both the U.S. House and Senate and is known as the chief author and sponsor of the Land Grant Acts, which were landmarks in the history of American education. The acts granted land and federal funds to states for the development of agricultural and technical colleges. The house is furnished with original family pieces. Interpretative exhibits are also located in a number of the barns and outbuildings.
