Chelsea is the county seat of Orange County and is unusual for having two town commons. The village retains many well-preserved Federal and Greek Revival buildings. Built in 1811-13, the Congregational Church is an excellent example of the Federal style and was built from plates published in Asher Benjamin’s “Architect’s Companion.” The Romanesque-style public library was built in 1894.
