Stowe Village Historic District

Stowe has been a resort town since 1859 when the Summit House opened at the top of the Mt Mansfield Toll Road. The Village Historic District includes a mid 19th C residential district, commercial buildings of the late 19th C and early 20th C and mixed use buildings that replaced the three block long Mt Mansfield Hotel 1863-1889, the Mt Mansfield Electric Rail Road from Waterbury 1897-1932, and the village mill of the CE and FO Burt Co. 1894-1963. The 2008 edition of A Walking Tour of Stowe is available at the Akeley Building, the Stowe Library and other sites in the village.
