St. Albans Historic District

In the 1850s St. Albans became a flourishing railroad center, and the main village in town shifted from St. Albans Bay on Lake Champlain to here. The district centers around Taylor Park, with its handsome fountain and row of outstanding public buildings on its east side. On the west side is an impressive row of historic commercial blocks. St. Albans was the site of the northern-most raid by Confederate forces during the Civil War. On the East side of the central park is a row of monumental public buildings. Across the park is the commercial center that stretches along Main Street.
