Located on a beautiful bay of Lake Champlain, Shelburne Farms is the former estate and working farm of Dr. William Seward Webb and Eliza Vanderbilt Webb. The farms were designed in the late 19th century by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, forester Gifford Pinchot, and architect Robert H. Robertson. Approximately 1,400 acres remain of the original 4,000. Today the farms demonstrate the stewardship of natural and agricultural resources through education programs, a children’s farmyard, program, tours of the property, and a walking trail. The house is operated as an inn and is open mid-May to mid-Oct. Annual events include tours of the fully restored Shelburne House on Mother’s Day weekend, Vermont Symphony Orchestra and Vermont Mozart Festival concerts in July and Aug, Green Mountain Draft Horse Field Day in July, and Harvest Festival and annual art show in Sept.
