Downtown Hardwick Historic District

Early settlement of Hardwick began after the completion of the Bayley-Hazen Military Road in 1780. The granite industry developed in the mid-19th century, and by the early 20th century, the town contained the world’s largest granite quarrying and finishing business. The downtown served as the commercial center for the region.
