The Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium is northern New England’s premier museum of natural history. The Museum was founded in 1889 by St. Johnsbury industrialist Franklin Fairbanks. It includes over 18,000 square feet of exhibits and 150,000 objects from nature and cultures around the world, including comprehensive collections of northern New England’s birds and wildlife and a spectacular array of large mounted animals. The Museum also features Vermont’s only public planetarium, and the Northern New England Weather Center, from which the popular “Eye on the Sky” weather forecasts are broadcast. The Museum presents extensive school programs in science and history, and hosts school field trips as well. Planetarium shows are held on the weekends September through June, and daily in July and August.
